The overall vision/mission of the Public Health Team is to produce research and teaching that supports efforts to reduce inequalities, by striving to identify and communicate methods currently utilised for improving the health of the population. In addition, the team seek to provide students/practitioners with the knowledge and skills to be effective public health practitioners. Within this, we seek to:
- Better understand the evidence base
- Offer research led teaching
- Take a social determinants approach to tackling health inequalities
The Public Health team are part of the Directorate of Allied and Public Health at the University of Salford. We are in the School of Health and Society.

The programme aligns with: the Public Health Skills & Knowledge Framework (2016); the Faculty of Public Health 10 key areas (discussed in more detail in Section 8); and the Framework for Higher Education Skills. The course has also secured Institutional membership to ASPHER (Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region), making us one of only a small number of institutions in the UK to hold this membership.
