Public Engagement
The Materials and Physics Research group is able to support a variety of public engagement events. Explore what we can offer below, and get in touch if you would like to discuss further, at j.e.proctor@salford.ac.uk.

Careers in Physics Talks
A physics degree develops a wide range of valuable skills. Our talks inspire and inform students about the many career options physics offers, showing how physics builds strong analytical and problem-solving abilities valued across many industries. We highlight what STEM research and academia careers look like, but also highlight alternative pathways in manufacturing, finance, data science, teaching and software development.
Portable Demonstrations and Lectures
We are passionate about bringing science to life. Our team has extensive experience delivering engaging physics demonstrations for all ages. We offer hands-on activities covering modern physics topics, including nanotechnology, extreme conditions, and measuring the speed of light in real time. Many demonstrations are portable, so we can bring them to your school, science festival, or evening event.
Modern Physics Tours
If you are open to visit us, we can arrange tours of our cutting-edge research and teaching facilities, along with more advanced demonstrations. Explore our Joule Physics Laboratories, see state-of-the-art equipment in action, and learn how physicists are tackling challenges from sustainable technologies to quantum systems. Guided by enthusiastic researchers, you’ll gain a behind-the-scenes look at how today’s science is shaping tomorrow’s world and what studying Physics in a University setting could look like for you.
