Abstract
Despina Ioannide is a scientific software engineer intern at The Science and Technology Facilities Council where she works on Computer vision, neutron imaging, data visualisation and analysis at the UK’s Largest Particle accelerator. Recently she has been working alongside environmental test engineers at RAL Space developing software that will be used to assess the National Satellite Test Facility‘s Direct Field Acoustic Noise Testing capability, which is currently undergoing commissioning. She also works alongside Oakridge National lab in the US and many other reputable institutes across the world, and additionally, is an upcoming intern in Astrophysical Machine learning at the European Space Agency (ESTEC) on the solar orbiter’s imaging for solar flares on the chromosphere. For this, she is working towards developing a machine learning model and numerical sorting for predicting solar flares and other electromagnetic anomalies on the surface of the sun using data from the HINODE instrument. In this presentation, she will give a perspective on life in science and the importance of computing in it, plus insight into RAL Space and the scientific accomplishments that RAL Space has been involved with.
