Prof Bill Davies, Director of LAURA

Thurs 21st March 2024 1pm-2pm on Teams – join via this link.
A recording of this webinar can now be found at https://youtu.be/8s-_HpKqakE

Interested in doing a PhD on Aural Diversity? Salford and Goldsmith have got six PhD positions fully funded by the Leverhulme Trust, which we are now recruiting for. Closing date is 21 April 2024. This webinar will tell you more about the opportunities and the process.

Our new hub is called LAURA – the Leverhulme Aural diversity doctoral research hub – which starts in Sept/Oct 2024. This substantial research activity will change the way that hearing differences are understood, in every discipline that deals with sound. Over the next three years we will recruit more PhD, MPhil and MSc students, seeing LAURA grow to 25 research students in total.

Potential PhD topics, supervisors, and details of how to apply can be found on our webpage: LAURA: The Leverhulme Trust Aural Diversity Doctoral Research Hub.

In this webinar, the Director of LAURA, Prof Bill Davies, will first present on what LAURA is, what funding is available, and how to apply. Then we will have a round robin with several LAURA supervisors introducing themselves and their topics. There will be time for questions at the end.

The event is open to anyone interested in exploring postgraduate research opportunities with us.

The webinar will be recorded and available on YouTube afterwards for those who can’t attend live.

The University of Salford and Goldsmiths University of London have been active in sound and hearing research for over 60 years. We have significant research activity on a wide range of areas relevant to aural diversity including :

  • acoustics
  • sound practice
  • music and performance
  • psychology
  • inclusion
  • applied health
