Leading FASD research at the University of Salford, UK

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder caused by prenatal exposure to alcohol. Our own research in the UK shows that around 3-4% of school-age children in Greater Manchester may have FASD and this is likely to be similar across the rest of the UK.

However, FASD is often missed or misdiagnosed, leaving people with FASD and their families with insufficient support and access to services.

We are conducting vital research to understand various aspects of the cause and impacts of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder; developing interventions and support to improve the lives of people with FASD and their families, helping to raise public awareness, and providing training for professionals.
