Joe has spent his career studying the interactions between pathogenic bacteria, their hosts, their surroundings and the antimicrobials used to treat them. He has developed novel bacterial culture protocols to study biofilm formation and microbial interactions in complex environments, with the aim of increasing antimicrobial effectiveness and combating resistance. Joe is also involved in communicating the science behind AMR to the public, running workshops at festivals and working to enhance AMR research capacity in Malawi.
