Research impact
Research Impact is defined by Research England as:
An effect on, change or benefit to the economy, society, culture, public policy or services, health, the environment or quality of life, beyond academia
If you have received funding from within your organisation or external sources such as large grant funders then impact is part of the research process. This will include sharing your findings with your colleagues, organisation, the wider health and care community and the public.
It is an important aspect of research and innovation activity, as it is the way in which we use research to make a demonstrable contribution that excellent research makes to society and the economy. Or in other words use our skills and knowledge to do good in the world.
You can learn more about impact and engagement – what it is, how to do it, and how to record it – by engaging with the following resources:
- NIHR give some clear advice on impact and provide researchers with an impact toolkit.
- Professor Mark Reed’s website ‘Fast Track Impact‘.
