The External Advisory Panel

The External Advisory Panel (EAP) functions as an independent advisory body providing expert guidance to support the project’s research and implementation. Membership of the EAP comprises individuals with from relevant professional bodies and health services across England, Wales and Scotland, and with expertise and experience in children and young people’s (CYP) mental health services.

Representation includes:

  • People with lived experience of using services, family members, and caregivers
  • Service providers and CYP mental health professionals
  • Commissioners and policymakers
  • Academic researchers and data analysts
  • Charitable organisations and advocacy groups
  • Representatives from relevant professional bodies and organisations (e.g. Association of Child and Adolescent Mental Health, ACAMH)

The EAP meets three times a year. The EAP’s core functions are to:

  • Advise on research priorities, methodology, and ethical considerations.
  • Contribute to the co-design of research instruments and stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Ensure that research findings are relevant and actionable for policymakers, clinicians, and service users.
  • Provide independent oversight on challenges, risks, and mitigations throughout the project lifecycle.
