East Sussex and Brighton & Hove Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment

This project was an assessment of Gypsy, Traveller and Travelling Showpeople accommodation needs in East Sussex and Brighton & Hove.

It involved three methods of data collection: a review of existing data; consultation with key stakeholders; and consultation with around 300 Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople residing in, or visiting, the study area.

It aimed to identify the number of Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople in each local authority area that had, or were likely to have, an accommodation need, as well exploring the need for transit provision across the study area. The assessment completed in May 2014.

Principal Investigators and Co-investigators: Dr Lisa Scullion, Professor Philip Brown and Philip Martin.

Partners: Trevor Baker (SHUSU Associate), Nicole Harrison (ARUP).

Funder: Consortium of the following authorities: South Downs National Park Authority; Lewes District Council; Rother District Council; Brighton & Hove City Council; Hastings Borough Council; Eastbourne Borough Council; and Wealden District Council.
