The South African Modernism project continues to go from strength to strength with appearing at the Being Human festival and sourcing new University of Salford funding for decolonising the curriculum work.
On Saturday 11 November, the team ran their Being Human Festival 2023 event, ‘Make a Zine! (Inspired by DRUM Magazine)’ workshop at the Clifford Whitworth Library on the University of Salford’s Peel Park Campus.
Participants were invited to make their own zines inspired by the South African DRUM magazine of the 1950s/60s, with experts from the Library, academics and researchers on hand to help. After the workshop, they were able to browse the collection of zines held at the Library and added their work to an online gallery.

The project has also recently been awarded £37,074 from the internal public policy fund to continue a project to decolonise the English Literature A-Level.
