It has been suggested that in-person neighbourly contact and the formation of positive neighbour relations has declined in recent times, especially in large conurbations, such as newly built urban villages. Such urban spaces are often associated with the risk of bad neighbouring given that they contain residents, often with diverse and conflicting backgrounds, all living within close proximity of one another. Data gathered from an online survey is used to comment on how residents living in a large newly built urban village in north-west England, used social media to build relationships, develop a sense of pride in place, and, establish ‘rules’ about acceptable behaviour. This data that can contribute to the wider academic understanding of online neighbouring, as well as address real-life empirical problems associated with living in newly built urban villages.
