‘HOW TO TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR COMMUNITY…AND KEEP IT!’: THE STORY OF THE ELDONIAN VILLAGE, LIVERPOOL.

Free public Talk by Colin Stuhlfelder at the Working Class Movement Library, Salford.

JUNE 20, 2024 5:00-6:30PM

All welcome

The research project The Modern Backdrop is nearing its end and we have since initiated an open-to-all research network on the study of ‘class.’ Part of the network is to collaborate with the Working Class Movement Library. We organise monthly public talks by our members and invited guest.

If you would like to contribute, join, or if you know someone who would give a talk on the topic of ‘class’, please let us know: themodernbackdrop@salford.ac.uk

This talk was originally presented at the 2011 Southern African Housing Foundation International Conference. It is a form of Universal manifesto for communities taking control of their own housing futures.

This revised and updated talk will explain how a Liverpool community – who were frustrated by being pushed from pillar to post by the local Council (and some burrowing engineers) – took on the Council and won the chance to build what was described as a ‘The Self Regenerating Community’ in the 1980s.
