Co-Design Event

In July 2023 we will be holding an event for interested stakeholders to explore digital training tools and share their opinions on benefits and barriers to implementing these within the NHS.

If you would like to register your interest for attending this event please email L.J.Garwood-Cross@salford.ac.uk. Further a details and a link for registration for the event will be available on this website closer to the time.

During the event where will be an opportunity to participate in a recorded focus group for any attendees who would like to have the opportunity to shape our research. Participation in this session is voluntary and you will not have to decide until the day itself. A Participant Information Sheet for the focus group is below to help you decide if you would like to participate.

Before you decide on whether to take part in this research session, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take time to read the following information carefully before you decide whether or not you wish to take part. You are welcome to discuss this project with others if you wish before you make your decision. Please feel free to ask us if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information, you are welcome to ask any of the researchers present to discuss your questions in private.

What is the purpose of the study?

The purpose of this study is to build a picture of the current situation around digital training provisions and the needs in the NHS around digital training, and to understand how we can imagine and problem-solve for the future-proofing of the service. This event will bring together people from various positions and fields for a sharing of knowledge and perspectives to consider the possibilities and problems for digital training solutions for NHS nurses.

Why have I been chosen?

You have been invited to contribute to this recorded research session at the co-design event because you are an NHS nurse, someone involved in the development or commissioning of training solutions, or can provide new insight into digital training because of your specialist skills and training (e.g., as an app developer, an educator or design student). We welcome people with a variety of skills and interests to provide their unique insight to participate.

Do I have to take part?

It is up to you to decide. We will describe the recorded research session in this information sheet, we will then ask you to complete a consent form to show that you have agreed to take part before you participate. You are free to withdraw at any time, without giving a reason, simply feel free to leave the session or choose not to contribute to the conversation. However, once you have participated it may not be possible to remove your anonymised responses from the transcribed data, although every attempt will be made to achieve this where possible. If you withdraw, any personal details we hold about you will be kept safely until the end of the project in case we need to contact you in relation to your withdrawal.

What do I have to do?/ What will happen to me if I take part?

If you decide to take part in the recorded research session you will participate in a 1-hour focus group in a room at the co-design event as part of the programming of the day where, as a group, you will be asked to discuss several questions about the possibilities and problems for digital training solution and how they can be expanded or solved. You can contribute as much or as little to the discussion as you wish. The session will be audio recorded and later transcribed by the research team who will use it to inspire future digital training solutions.

How will my information be used?

We will need to use information from you for this research project. This information will include your demographic data and contact details to arrange your interview.  People will use this information to do the research or to check your records to make sure that the research is being done properly. People who do not need to know who you are will not be able to see your name or contact details. Your data will have a code number instead. We will write our reports in a way that no-one can work out that you took part in the study. We will keep all information about you safe and secure. Transcription of the focus group may be done by an independent organisation, however they will not have access to your name or contact details and a confidentiality agreement will be in place in this case. Once we have finished the study, we will keep some of the data so we can check the results. This anonymous information will be kept for a minimum of 5 years after the study has ended. If you agree to take part in this study, you will have the option to take part in future research using your data saved from this study.

Where can I find out more about how my information is used?
You can find out more about how we use your information by asking one of the research team via the details provided at the end of this participant information sheet or by sending an email to the University of Salford’s Data Protection Manager at foi@salford.ac.uk and informing them that you are part of the HEAL project by PI Cristina Vasilica.

What are the possible disadvantages and risks of taking part?

There should not be any disadvantages or risks from you taking part. However, if you do experience any unexpected distress, we recommend you check https://people.nhs.uk/ or https://www.mind.org.uk/ for further support. These services will also be linked on the last page of the survey.

What are the possible benefits of taking part?

We cannot promise the study will help you directly, but the information we get from the study will help further develop NHS digital training solutions. We are a university and so it is part of our reason for being that we advance knowledge through research as well as through teaching. Your participation in this research helps us to do that.

Who is organising or sponsoring the research?
