The University of Salford have recently been awarded a grant by the UK NIHR to carry out a larger scale study of Cognitive Muscular TherapyTM (CMT) for people with knee osteoarthritis who have failed to benefit from exercise-based management. This study will recruit 90 patients with knee osteoarthritis and divide them into a control (n=45) and intervention (n=45) group. The intervention group will receive seven sessions of CMT from a UK NHS physiotherapist. We anticipate that the results of this study will be available in November 2023.

As part of our ongoing development of CMT, we have created a CPD course for physiotherapists which provides theoretical knowledge and the practical skills to deliver CMT in clinical practice. This course is delivered through 15-20 hours of online learning and two face-to-face training days. If you are a physiotherapist and are interested in learning more about our CPD course, then please add you details to our mailing list via the form which can be accessed here.
