This mini-symposium featured presentations by current postgraduate researchers, working in media and performance. Details of the presentations that were given are below:
2:00-2:05pm: Welcome from chairs
2:05-2:20pm: “T-Pose with Stillness: A Performative Demonstration” – Lucie Sykes
The performative demonstration introduces the initial findings of my current practice as a research PhD on how to active the T-pose with Stillness. The research explores sculptural qualities of improvising body within digital environments. The T-pose is a standardised static pose in motion capture practices to construct the marker data set into a recognised skeleton structure. I propose that this static pose has a sense of presence, which is experienced by the mover, becoming part of a dynamic movement quality: stillness as a state of presence.
2:20-2:35pm: “The Song-Film: An exploration of the enfolding of song-making and first-person filmmaking” – Owen Davey
Reflecting on the findings from the first year of this PaR PhD, this paper takes the form of an online video that both demonstrates and comments upon the form that “song-film” has taken in practice so far.
2:35-2:50pm: “Queering the Old Fool – or is he just fooling himself?” – Seán Fitton
A phenomenological examination of the Trickster/Fool archetype as an icon of Queer identity, expressed in song, story and poetry.
2:50-3:15pm: Chaired discussion & questions to panel
