Colleagues were invited to take part in a special event in the Salford Museum and Art Gallery on 10 March to celebrate Jackie Kay’s tenure as the University’s Chancellor and to thank her for her remarkable service over the last five years. A number of warm and grateful speeches were made and Lindsay Taylor presented a parting gift of a special commemoration of Jackie’s parents, who both passed away in the last few years, to be installed in the University grounds. The event also saw Jackie perform poems written during her time at Salford, including a brand new one for the occasion, and an amazing vocal perfomance from Suzanne Bonnar. Jackie also launched a new poetry pamphlet entitled Affinity.
The image below shows Scott Thurston, Emma Barnes and Ursula Hurley with Jackie, shortly after getting their copies of her pamphlet signed.
