Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering embraces control and systems engineering, transport and railway and bio-medical engineering.
The areas of research interest include new control systems that use fault tolerant control methods, advanced condition monitoring techniques and data fusion from multiple sensors. There is a particular focus on mechanical engineering challenges within the transport and railway sector which is considering the problem of wheel slip to provide improved traction control. Another important area of research is the development of specialist mechanical engineering techniques to biomedical engineering with a particular focus on foot biomechanics, tackling both experimental and modelling challenges, and work on prosthetics for upper and lower limb amputees.
