Research
Our research is related to operational research, supply chain management, manufacturing and optimisation. Thereby our multidisciplinary research team includes experts in control and modelling, forecasting, econometrics, big data analytics and additive manufacturing.
Operational research OR |
The main concern of OR is analytical problem-solving and decision-making closely linked to the management of organisations. Thereby main characteristics are optimisation (best performance under given circumstances), simulation (to build models to test and try out before applying them), probability and statistics (benefit from new insight, to predict and to test alternative solutions). |
Supply Chain Management SCM |
SCM is about the integrated process-oriented planning and control of the flow of goods, information and money across the entire value and supply chain. “Entire” encloses the differentiation between downstream the supply chain (to the end-customer) and upstream the supply chain (to the raw material supplier). One main driver for SCM is the fact that in today’s business world, companies cannot guarantee competitiveness just for their products and services alone. In fact the entire supply chain is responsible to be succesful. It is no longer individual companies but the entire supply chains that are in competition with each other. |
Optimisation |
In the given context of OR and SCM, optimisation is mainly concerned with the analysis in order to maximise or minimise a process which is subject to constraints. |
