As a researcher, it is your responsibility to ensure your research is in accordance with your ethical approval. Please ensure you read the guide in full.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"getting-your-researcher-account\"> Getting your \u201cResearcher\u201d account<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You will only be able to use SONA for participant recruitment if you include this information in your ethics application. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Researcher accounts can only be issued by the Psychology Technical Team.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This is so no students can start advertising their studies before receiving ethical approval. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once you\u2019ve received your ethical approval letter, you need to email this to the Psychology Technical Team (psytech@salford.ac.uk) and an account will be created for you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"logging-in\">Prerequisites<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If applicable. In order to set up your SONA advertisement, you will first need to have your experiment ready. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a rough rule of thumb:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re conducting <strong><em>questionnaire-based research<\/em><\/strong> you&#8217;ll most likely be building your experiment in JISC Online Surveys.<strong><em> <\/em><\/strong>To request an Online Surveys click &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/salfordprod.service-now.com\/dit_sp?id=sc_cat_item&amp;sys_id=2dd4a53fdba36b0009d2459d3b96199c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">here\u2019.<\/a> For support documentation on how to use Online Surveys click <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onlinesurveys.ac.uk\/help-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">&#8216;here&#8217;<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re conducting <strong><em>online task-based research<\/em><\/strong> or have a<strong><em> complex questionnaire design<\/em><\/strong> you&#8217;ll most likely be building your experiment in Gorilla.sc.<strong><em> <\/em><\/strong>For support documentation on how to use Gorilla.sc click <a href=\"https:\/\/support.gorilla.sc\/support\/getstarted\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer questionnaire<\/em><\/strong>.<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>Though there are three options for online studies, you should only use \u2018<span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Online External Study<\/span>\u2019 or &#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Multi-Part <\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Online External Study<\/span>&#8216; if you are conducting online research (The latter aimed at longitudinal research). This will allow you to host your survey outside of the SONA system (i.e. Online Surveys, Gorilla).<strong><em><br><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"358\" src=\"https:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2022\/01\/image-7-1024x358.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2727\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2022\/01\/image-7-1024x358.png 1024w, https:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2022\/01\/image-7-300x105.png 300w, https:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2022\/01\/image-7-768x269.png 768w, https:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2022\/01\/image-7.png 1413w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"study-payment\">Study&#8217;payment&#8217;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You\u2019ll probably of noticed that with each study type comes two options: <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"483\" height=\"146\" src=\"https:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2022\/01\/image-6.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2724\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2022\/01\/image-6.png 483w, https:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2022\/01\/image-6-300x91.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 483px) 100vw, 483px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> You will want to use the \u2018credit\u2019 option (as shown above) \u2013 This allows the system to grant research credits to participants in recompense for their participation.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"study-information\">Study Information<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Once you\u2019ve selected the appropriate study type and selected \u2018continue\u2019, you will be presented with a page for inputting your study information. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From here, you can save your progress at any time using the \u2018Add this Study\u2019 button at the bottom of the page \u2013 Don\u2019t worry, this doesn\u2019t make your incomplete study available to participants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What you enter into this page will depend on your study, but there are a few key fields to ensure you\u2019ve completed it correctly. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"payments\">Restricting Courses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You may wish to restrict what participants you recruit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For example, if you&#8217;re conducting face-to-face research, it would be wise to prevent participants who live abroad from being able to sign up.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can do this using the Course Restrictions option.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"236\" src=\"https:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2022\/10\/image-1024x236.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3323\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2022\/10\/image-1024x236.png 1024w, https:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2022\/10\/image-300x69.png 300w, https:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2022\/10\/image-768x177.png 768w, https:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2022\/10\/image.png 1148w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"payments\">Payments<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The system for credit rewards is as follows: <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 credit can be awarded for each 20 minutes, or part thereof, of participation. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A 20 minute study is worth 1 credit, a 25 minute study (20 + part) is worth 2. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Studies that require participants to attend at a particular place and time (lab\/field studies) can award 1 extra credit. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"codes\">CRGEC Approval Code<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You will be asked to fill in a CRGEC approval code and expiration date.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>These relate to your ethics application.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The CRGEC code is the code that designates your ethics application and will be available on your approval letter &#8211; usually refered to as your Application ID. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The CRGEC approval expiration is an ethical safety feature in SONA. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It ensures you can\u2019t collect data once your ethics approvals have expired. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Except, at Salford, we don\u2019t get ethics expiration dates. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>So, you need to fill this in with a sensible date that represents a point by which you will of collected all your data (such as your dissertation deadline). <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The last two fields in the basic options for SONA are<strong> \u2018approved?\u2019<\/strong> and <strong>\u2018active study\u2019<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Both of these need to be set to <strong>yes<\/strong> for your study to appear to participants. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Y<strong>ou&#8217;re not done yet! <\/strong>You still need to add more information to your SONA advertisment so participants can access it. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2019\/10\/Study_Approval_active_study_SONA-1024x220.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-966\" width=\"616\" height=\"132\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2019\/10\/Study_Approval_active_study_SONA-1024x220.png 1024w, https:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2019\/10\/Study_Approval_active_study_SONA-300x64.png 300w, https:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2019\/10\/Study_Approval_active_study_SONA-768x165.png 768w, https:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/psytech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/95\/2019\/10\/Study_Approval_active_study_SONA.png 1173w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 616px) 100vw, 616px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-css-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"timeslots\">Study URL &#8211; select \u2018view, add or edit timeslots\u2019 from your researcher homepage (or alternately from the study menu drop-down on the study page). <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image has-white-background-color has-text-color has-background has-normal-font-size\"><strong>Ensure that you collect your participant&#8217;s SONA IDs in order to verify participation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Once participants have completed your study, you\u2019ll need to tell SONA to reward the credit. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>With online questionnaire studies, you will need to ask for the SONA participation code of the participant within the survey, and then match this with the list of people signed up to complete your study in SONA. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To reward credits, use the \u2018View uncredited timeslots\u2019 button on the researcher&#8217;s home page.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You\u2019ll be presented with a list of the timeslots that have passed (lab studies) or a list of the participants signed up to complete your study (online studies). <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To the right will be <strong>3 options<\/strong>: <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Participated<\/strong> \u2013 Use this to award credit for participation <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Excused no-show<\/strong> \u2013 Didn\u2019t participate but for acceptable reasons <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Unexcused no-show<\/strong> \u2013 Didn\u2019t participate. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(If participants in SONA receive 2 unexcused no-shows they will be locked out of the
