The next VC Early Career Researcher talk is taking place on Tuesday 4 May.
Dr Hugh McLaughlin will be talking about the transition from practice to a research environment.
It’s taking place in Mary Seacole building room 302 from 4- 5pm.
All welcome. Please can you let Sandra Wadeson know if you plan to attend, s.wadeson [@]Salford.ac.uk.
This topic should be of interest to anyone who has experience of mediating between the different worlds of professional practice and research, whether that might be in a health context, or in art and design, business, management … or any other field in fact. The world of academia can seem a strange one, with its unwritten rules, to anyone entering it from a different kind of working environment. That said, it can also seem somewhat bewildering to those who have come direct from the further education-undergraduate route. If any of this sounds familiar, come along on Tuesday and share your experiences!
Hugh is the Associate Head of Research in the School of Social Work, Psychology and Public Health, and has experience of working in social services management and as a social worker. His research interests include the effectiveness of social work practice, the involvement of service users in research, child care and corporate parenting.
