On Wednesday 22nd May we marked the opening of our final exhibition of the Modern Backdrop with a special viewing. It was attended by friends and supporters of the project, including local residents who shared their memories and photographs that featured in the exhibition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Invisible Cities: Salford before, during and after redevelopment, 1952 to 1974<\/em> focuses on the transformation of Salford between 1952 and 1974, when terraced houses and neighbourhoods were being replaced with modern architecture. Included in the exhibition are photos taken by local citizens and professional photographers, alongside architectural plans, maps and stills from TV and film to demonstrate how different media can represent similar historic moments. The exhibition also features excerpts from oral history interviews that were recorded during the project and juxtapose with the visual representations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition is located in the North Gallery of the Salford Museum and Art Gallery and runs until 1st September 2024<\/strong>. Exhibition catalogues are available in the Museum Shop. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
