Poverty & modernisation

By Nov.05, 2012

My section of tomorrows SSL will focus on whether or not poverty is a form of modernisation, how can this be demonstrated and what are the implications for the global south. The SSL will focus heavily on economic institutions and will question whether they help or hinder economic growth of ‘developing’ states.

Here is a video which will be shown tomorrow, demonstrating how the World Bank (one third of the institutions of the Bretton Woods system) measures poverty. Although social inequalities are mentioned, such as food rights, education, healthcare and gender equality; take note on how the video heavily focused on income. This focus will be explored further in tomorrows session.
