The Underemployment Project

Dr. Daiga Kamerāde is a co-investigator in a three-year research project on underemployment, funded by the ESRC Large Grant Scheme. This pioneering initiative centres around individuals who find themselves working beneath their full potential or personal preferences concerning hours, wages, and skill utilisation. Using mixed methods approach, the study aims to monitor the levels of underemployment within the United Kingdom and across Europe. It will examine the demographics of the underemployed workforce, identify the factors that predict and result from underemployment, and provide valuable insights into the real-life experiences of underemployed individuals residing in four major cities in the UK, including Salford. This research promises to shed much-needed light on a critical labour market issue and pave the way for evidence-based policy solutions.

The project team also includes:

Dr. Vanessa Beck (PI, University of Bristol)

Professor Tracy Warren (University of Nottingham)

Dr. Luis Torres (University of Nottingham)

Dr. Vanesa Fuertes (University of the West of Scotland)

The research involves collaborations four partners:

Bristol One City

Nottingham Citizens

Salford City Council

Poverty Alliance, Glasgow.
