Mothering in carceral spaces: Stories of seeking asylum and the criminal justice system

Mothering in carceral spaces is a feminist narrative research project with women in the asylum and criminal justice systems in the UK. Building on research in relation to prison and immigration detention, we are looking at how carceral spaces shape and impact women’s experiences of mothering. We will use the ‘Listening Guide’, a feminist narrative method of analysis to explore mothers’ stories of asylum and criminal justice systems in the UK. The findings from this qualitative study will provide missing perspectives in relation to mothering and inform/influence policies and practices uniquely from the perspective of mothers.
