LOMIS<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is one of the major causes for lower extremity amputation. 80% of DFU-related amputations could be prevented with better management of plantar forces during load bearing activities. The focus of this project is to design and test the LOMIS system, which is a comprehensive plantar loading pattern monitoring to enable real-time alert to patient to elicit behaviour changes and help inform clinicians for routine assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project combines multidisciplinary expertise from the University of Salford, University of Southampton, Bangor University and Keele University, and supported by a Clinical Advisory Group, and a Public and Patient Involvement (PPI) panel. The LOMIS PPI panel<\/a> was established to co-produce this project by placing the end users\u2019 views at the centre of the design and development process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Why is LOMIS so important to me?’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diabetic foot ulceration affects not only your foot. The mental impact of ulceration can be very restrictive, limiting or even stopping people doing the activities they once did and love for fear of ulceration and the potential for amputation if this ulcer progresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As someone who has experienced ulceration on several occasions, LOMIS would give me a safety net or early warning system allowing me to partake in the activities I want to do without the mental stress of ‘is my foot ulcerating?’<\/p>\nMr Andy Lavender<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
