Hamstring Strain Injury Risk Reduction for Athletes

Hamstring strain injuries within team sports has one of the highest rates of occurrence of any injury, with injuries having financial and performance related burdens in team sports such as European Soccer. Hence, reducing the risk of their incidence within sport is crucial for sports performance practitioners, this can be achieved through targeting the modifiable risk factors of hamstring strain injuries. Our research of this topic has covered the diverse range of assessing the modifiable risk factors, observing methodological challenges, reporting reliability of varied measurements and measurement tools. Moreover, our research has also observed how these modifiable risk factors could be impacting athletic performance and then how training can have positive beneficial effects on the modifiable risk factors.

Our research of this topic has been supported by external funding and results have been published in peer-reviewed journals. Our staff have been invited to present at the largest international strength and conditioning conference on training for the posterior chain, including the hamstrings. We have also been able to present at several other major international conferences, while also offering continuing professional development to sports practitioners working in football and rugby clubs around England and internationally.
