RaCeR 2 – Rehabilitation following rotator cuff repair

We are conducting a study to see which the best approach to rehabilitation is following surgery to repair the muscles and tendons of the shoulder (rotator cuff). We will recruit 638 patients who have undergone keyhole surgery to repair their rotator cuff across 30 hospitals in England, Scotland and Wales.

Following surgery, participants will receive standard rehabilitation (4 weeks in a sling) or patient-directed rehabilitation (patients can choose to remove the sling and start moving their arm when they feel able to).

Funding

RaCeR 2 is funded by the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) Health Technology Assessment (HTA) programme (£1,737,837).

Project Period

RaCeR 2 will inform clinical practice nationally and internationally. RaCeR 2 opened for recruitment in June 2023 and we expect to complete the study and publish the results by April 2027.

Team

RaCeR 2 is being led by Professor Chris Littlewood
