Development of a Rheumatology Occupational Therapy Capabilities Framework

This research aims to develop a Rheumatology Occupational Therapy Capabilities Framework (ROTCF) to support UK occupational therapists working in rheumatology. The goal is to define the essential knowledge, skills, and attributes required, close gaps in current practice, and elevate the quality of care.

The project begins with a scoping phase to identify core competencies, followed by a national survey. The insights gathered will inform the development of a framework by a multidisciplinary working group of expert occupational therapists, rheumatology specialists, and other healthcare professionals aligned with national and international guidelines. The resulting framework will be submitted to the British Society for Rheumatology and the Royal College of Occupational Therapists for official endorsement.
