Dr Rob Philburn
I joined Salford in 1995 as a post-graduate student. Following the completion of my MSc and PhD, for which I received an ESRC scholarship, I became a member of the Sociology and Criminology Directorate. Alongside lecturing and programme/module development I have occupied several roles at both Directorate and School level, including Module Convenor, Admissions Tutor, Retention Officer, Programme leader, Undergraduate Co-ordinator, Academic Misconduct Offer, Director of Undergraduate Studies, and Assessment and Examinations Officer. My research has included work with local Youth Offending Teams, other regional universities, and external consultancy. I have co-authored two books and published and presented both nationally and internationally.
Postgraduate Research Supervision Interests
Topics using interactionist sociology, conversation analysis work; ethnographic work in any setting, work employing the sociology of Erving Goffman.
