Running and sports
Our research in this domain addresses important issues relating to sports performance, injury and recovery. For example, we are investigating biomechanical factors which may underlie common running injuries and using this knowledge to develop and test new treatment approaches. This work complements other research exploring factors related to chronic ankle instability and how best to optimise rehabilitation and return to sport after traumatic injury, such as ACL rupture. Other work in this domain links to our research in osteoarthrosis and seeks to understand the risk of post-traumatic degenerative conditions following trauma. Complimenting the research on mechanisms of injury, we are developing new methods for accurately assessing physical performance characteristics across different sports which can be used in real-world settings. We also research resistance training methods which can enhance sports performance.
