Nursing Now Challenge Technically Assisted Learning and Education Nursing and Midwife Teams (TALENT) Groups

The Nursing Now campaign supports nurses globally to raise their status and profile.  Managed by the University of Coventry, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation and the International Council of Nurses, over 30,000 nurses and midwives have been enrolled in leadership development training by over 800 employers worldwide.

The Nursing Now Challenge (NNC) part of this campaign focuses on leadership development for early career (EC) nurses and HEE’s Directorate of Global Engagement (DGE) developed and piloted a programme of online communities for leadership development for EC nurses in support of the NNC Challenge. six online communities were created for nurses in England, India and Uganda. Each of the communities were made up of 20 EC nurses identified by their employers as having leadership potential.

Following a positive evaluation of the pilot, where nurse participants reported increased levels of self and professional confidence, the programme will be scaled up and evaluated as the Technically Assisted Learning and Education Nursing and Midwife Teams (TALENT) groups project. 

The TALENT Groups project

• Aims to develop virtual communities of leadership development within multiple countries for early career nurses.  These will provide online spaces where globally focused future nurse leaders/ambassadors can collaborate.
• Will evaluate whether the model can be used to facilitate the development of nursing leadership skills on a global scale from the perspective of participants and their employers
