We are preparing to develop a therapeutic intervention for children with foetal alcohol spectrum disorder and early life adversity. First, we would like to know whether any such existing services are being offered in the UK.

Before you decide on whether to take part, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take sufficient time (at least 24 hours recommended) to read the following information carefully before you decide whether or not you wish to take part. You are welcome to discuss this project with others if you wish before you make your decision. Please contact Dr Alan Price at a.d.price3@salford.ac.uk if there is anything that is not clear or if you would like more information.

2. What is the purpose of the study?

There is a lack of evidence-based therapeutic interventions for children with foetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). Since many children with FASD also have a history of early life adversity, they may benefit from therapeutic interventions built around an attachment and trauma model. However, these may need to be adapted for the specific neurodevelopmental presentation of children with FASD. We are interested in developing such a therapeutic intervention and we have not been able to find anything like this in the published academic literature. We are conducting this brief scoping survey to see whether any providers in the UK currently offering this kind of therapeutic intervention.

3. Why have I been invited to take part?

You have been invited to take part because you are a provider of therapeutic interventions for care-experienced and/or adopted children in the UK.

4. Do I have to take part?

It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part. When you are participating, if you change your mind you can withdraw at any time without giving a reason, and there will not be any negative consequences. You can also ask for your data to be removed up to one week after taking part. You can request a copy of the information sheet by contacting the researcher.

5. What will happen to me if I take part?

If you choose to take part in this research, you will be asked between 2 and 4 yes/no questions and you can provide further information if you wish to.
