In work, at home, by our bosses, teachers and politicians \u2013 we are encouraged to think creatively and untold innovations and riches will follow. The term is everywhere.&nbsp;&nbsp;The trouble is though, no one has really stopped to think, what does it mean to be creative? Symposium<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Too place Monday, 5 November 2018 from 16:00 to 18:00 (GMT)<\/strong><br><strong>University of Salford | New Adelphi Building&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a data-mce-href=\"https:\/\/www.salford.ac.uk\/arts-media\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/www.salford.ac.uk\/arts-media\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>School of Arts and Media (SAM)<\/strong><\/a> and the <strong>Sustainable Housing &amp; Urban Studies Unit (SHUSU)<\/strong> at the <strong>University of Salford<\/strong> organised\u00a0\u00a0a symposium entitled <em>&#8216;Can Design Save Society?&#8217;<\/em> as part of the wider <a data-mce-href=\"https:\/\/esrc.ukri.org\/public-engagement\/festival-of-social-science\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"https:\/\/esrc.ukri.org\/public-engagement\/festival-of-social-science\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Festival of Social Science<\/strong><\/a> organised by the <strong>Economic and Social Science Research Council (ESRC)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SAM<\/strong> and <strong>SHUSU<\/strong> have been working together over the last couple of years on illustrating the power of design to make people and policy makers stop, think and reflect on established knowledge about the world and pressing social issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hidden Young People in Salford: Research findings launch<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Took place Wednesday, 31 October 2018 from 10:30 to 13:00 (BST)<br>University of Salford | The Old Firestation <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Academics at the <strong>University of Salford<\/strong> have been commissioned by <strong>Salford City Council<\/strong> as part of the <strong>Salford Anti-Poverty Taskforce<\/strong> collaboration to undertake research exploring the experience of \u2018Hidden\u2019 young people in Salford \u2013 i.e. those young people who are neither in employment, education or training (NEET), nor who claim the benefits they are entitled to. This event&nbsp;&nbsp;provided an overview of the key research findings with <strong>City Mayor, Paul Dennett<\/strong> present providing a response to the findings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sustainable Transport Futures Inaugural Seminar: &#8216;Bike Share and our cities&#8217;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Took Place Thursday, 18 October 2018 from 12:00 to 14:00 (BST)<\/strong><br><strong>University of Salford | The Old Firestation&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bike Share Report kicked off a new Transport Seminar Series. The University of Salford invited people to join the inaugural seminar of \u2018Sustainable Transport Futures\u2019 series: \u2018<em>Bike Share and our cities\u2019<\/em>\u2019, which featured the launch of brand new research on bike sharing schemes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CARe Seminar Series<br>Embarrassment and gratitude: The experience of food bank use in England<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Took place Thursday, 18 October 2018 from 12:00 to 14:00 (BST)<\/strong><br><strong>University of Salford | L417 Allerton Building<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This seminar highlighted&nbsp;&nbsp;food bank use engendering feelings of both embarrassment and gratitude among those accessing them. Analysis of interviews conducted with food bank staff and people using food banks throughout the Liverpool City Region shows that both terms came up frequently. Other academic literature on food bank use in the UK where this trend has been identified was also discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Welfare conditionality: Sanctions, support and behaviour change Final findings launch<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Took place&nbsp;Wednesday, 18 July 2018 from 13:00 to 16:00 (BST)<\/strong><br><strong>University of Salford | The Old Firestation <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This event presented the final findings from the five-year ESRC funded <strong><em>Welfare Conditionality: Sanctions, support and behaviour change <\/em><\/strong>project. This project has created an international and interdisciplinary focal point for research on welfare conditionality, providing a new and wide-ranging evidence base on the impact and ethicality of welfare conditionality across a range of policy areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sanctions, Support &amp; Service Leavers: Social security benefits, welfare conditionality and transitions from military to civilian life &#8211; First-wave findings launch<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Took place Thursday 19th April 2018, 5pm to 8.30pm<\/strong><br><strong>MediaCity UK<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event presented the first-wave findings of an ongoing longitudinal project funded by the Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) called <em>Sanctions, Support and Service Leavers: Welfare conditionality and transitions from military to civilian life<\/em>.
