Recognising the increasing prevalence of cycling on Greater Manchester\u2019s roads, the course is designed to help people who drive as part of their work to develop skills needed to deal with today\u2019s multi-use roads and includes practical experience of cycling on the roads with qualified instructors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The research built upon the \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/hub.salford.ac.uk\/care-shusu\/projects\/communicating-cycle-training-messaging-to-engage-with-everyday-cyclists\/\">Communicating Cycle Training<\/a>\u2019 project and used qualitative research to gain an understanding of the trainee\u2019s prior experiences in sharing the road with bikes, the ways in which elements of the course were received, and the extent to which the course impacts upon the perceptions and practices of the drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Principal Investigator:<\/strong> Dr Graeme Sherriff<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Funders:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bikeright.co.uk\/\">BikeRight!<\/a> and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/cycling.tfgm.com\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Report:<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/usir.salford.ac.uk\/id\/eprint\/42933\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>\u2018Seeing it from a cyclist\u2019s point of view is totally different.\u2019<\/em> : understanding the impact of cycling awareness training for HGV drivers<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SHUSU are working with cycle training provider BikeRight! in a pilot study that is investigating their new Safe Urban Driving course.
