Social (in)security? Learning lessons from lived experiences of welfare and work<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

While recent figures have reported record employment rates, there is growing concern about the UK\u2019s increasingly precarious and insecure labour market. This is coupled with on-going welfare reforms that have seen the introduction of a raft of measures impacting not only on those claiming unemployment benefits, but also on those providing employment and welfare support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the 8th November 2017 at the Museum of Science and Industry, Manchester, M3 4FP we hosted the third of our SHUSU<\/a> 21st Anniversary events. This event was funded by the ESRC as part of their Festival of Social Science, which aims to provide insights into some of the UKs leading social science research and how it influences our social, economic and political lives. It was therefore a perfect opportunity to focus on the work being undertaken by members of our Work and Welfare sub-group.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seminar was Chaired by our Work and Welfare sub-group lead, Dr Lisa Scullion, and presented findings from three projects of relevance to those working in the area of welfare and employment support. It provided unique insights into the experiences of benefit claimants, those who have entered the labour market, but also welfare practitioners operating within this policy backdrop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
