Intersectionality of Gender and Sexuality in Asylum Claims by Queer Refugee Women
Focusing on Southern Germany and working in collaboration with LesCommunity e. V. (LeTRa), an organization based in Munich that supports queer refugee women, this study aims to generate new data related to the specific intersectional challenges lesbian and queer women face in the asylum process in Germany. In so doing, it will contribute to policy discussions in the area of asylum, gender equality, gender-based and sexualized violence and the EU LGBTI strategy. Based on the discourse analysis of 30 asylum interview protocols and decisions by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) as well as court decisions, the researchers will publish a 10-page guide for decision-making practice regarding the asylum claims of queer women with a particular focus on the intersectionality of race, gender, sexuality, motherhood, and age. This will include policy recommendations focusing on multiple discrimination of queer refugee women and their vulnerability to gender-based and sexualized violence.
