Exploring and Mapping Inclusive Digital Resources for Breast/Chest Examination and Screening for Trans People in the United Kingdom
Breast/chest self-examination is an accepted form of early detection of cancer. Public health messaging for LGTBQ+ through charities such as Live Through This and CoppaFeel demonstrate a need for co-created information. However, there is a still a lack of published literature to support an evidence-base for education and policy change. This project will bring together researchers, communities, charities, and clinical educators to develop the evidence-base to support changes in policy, education, and practice.
The aim of the study is to explore the understanding and opinions about self-examination public health messages amongst trans people and the awareness of the range of online or local community-based resources. This will be done by building research communities and patient and public involvement, exploring the views around public health messages, and delivering inclusive public health message around breast/chest self-examination and screening.
It is recognised as important to translate academic research into real-world outcomes relevant to communities and society to create impact. As well as publishing in academic journals, other methods of sharing the research, such as creation of shareable digital stories, aims to increase the impact of the work throughout the research process.
