Eagleton, who is Distinguished Professor English Literature at Lancaster University, was educated at Salford\u2019s De La Salle College before reading English at the University of Cambridge. Whilst at Cambridge, he became the youngest fellow at Jesus College since the 18th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1969, he became a fellow and tutor at the University of Oxford and was made Thomas Warton Professor of English in 1992. He returned to the north west in 2001, when he became the John Edward Taylor Professor of English at the University of Manchester before joining Lancaster University in 2008.
