The event featured other Scottish authors, local primary school children and Dennis the Menace (!), and took place at the\u202fNational Library of Scotland in Edinburgh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The scheme has been initiated by the Department of Education and the National Literacy Trust (of which\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/literacytrust.org.uk\/about-us\/our-patron\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Her Majesty is Patron<\/a>),\u202fand seeks to address the national decline in reading for pleasure. This is also part of the remit of the English Research Centre&#8217;s setting up of <a href=\"https:\/\/northern-school-of-writing.salford.ac.uk\/salford-literacy-symposium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Salford Literacy Matters Network<\/a> led by David Savill.
