We are delighted that Salford English is hosting the 2023 Babel Lecture on Friday 9th June at 5:30-7pm at the Digital Media Performance Lab at the University of Salford’s Media City UK campus. The lecture will be delivered by Robin Ince, the comedian, writer and broadcaster. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Admission is free of charge. Please book your tickets here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guests are also welcome to attend a wine reception before the lecture, which starts at 4.30pm<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Babel: The Language Magazine <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Babel: The Language Magazine<\/em> is a quarterly language magazine that brings cutting-edge linguistic research to non-specialists in an accessible and colourful format. The magazine covers a vast array of language lovers\u2019 lore, taking in languages from around the world; the past, present and future of language, and the many different uses of linguistics in the world around us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Babel<\/em>\u00a0has a significant national and international profile, having reached thousands of readers across six continents in 38 countries. Each year,\u00a0Babel<\/em>\u00a0hosts\u00a0a free public\u00a0lecture, with previous speakers including Susie Dent and Stephen Fry. This year, the\u00a0Babel\u00a0Lecture\u00a0will be hosted by the University of Salford and will be given by Robin Ince.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Robin Ince: Babel Lecturer 2023 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Robin Ince is a comedian, author, broadcaster and science communicator. He is best known as the co-host of the Sony Gold Award winning BBC Radio 4 series The Infinite Monkey Cage<\/em> with Professor Brian Cox. He also co-hosts the podcast Book Shambles<\/em> with Josie Long, An Uncanny Hour<\/em> and Science Shambles<\/em> with Dr Helen Czerski. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Robin has written several books, most recently I\u2019m a Joke and So Are You<\/em>, which was described by Chortle as \u2018one of the best books ever written about what it means to be a comedian\u2019. He also wrote The Bad Book Club<\/em>, and has edited and written short stories for two volumes of Dead Funny: Horror Stories by Comedians<\/em>, as well as writing and presenting documentaries about the history of self-help, comedians and melancholy, Jeff Wayne\u2019s War of the Worlds, Richard Feynman, General Relativity and Dr Seuss. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a stand up he has toured the world and won three Chortle Awards, the Time Out Outstanding Achievement Award and was nominated for the British Comedy Awards Best Live show.  <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
