YOD in Neurobiology

Dr Gemma Lace-Costigan leads the neurobiology dementia research team that aims to understand why brain cells die in the diseases that cause dementia. Her work primarily focuses on Alzheimer’s disease and also frontotemporal dementia (a cause of early onset dementia). Her research team uses human brain tissue from the Manchester Brain Bank at Salford Royal Hospital, as well as cellular based disease models to explore why abnormal proteins build up and how they cause brain cell damage.
