The pages currently on your website were created to show the flexibility of the Salford RC theme and give you a small idea on what you can do with it. It’s worth reading the About the Theme pages before you start creating your content – and once you’re ready you can delete the starter pages/posts.
If you delete any of the information pages you can get back to them by visiting https://hub.salford.ac.uk/salford-rc.
Your New Site
The following default settings have been applied to the new site and may need to be changed before you launch your site as live – the Web Team can help with these things:
- The site is in Maintenance Mode – that means that visitors who are not logged in will see a suitable ‘We are in development/maintenance’ message. This will need to be de-activated.
- The site has been set so that Search Engines are ‘discouraged’ from indexing the site. this is done in the Settings -> Reading page. This should be changed.
- The site is configured so that no discussion/comments are allowed on posts or pages. This should only be changed if the nature of your site and content requires it – please discuss with the Web Team if necessary.
- The menu is configured so that new ‘top level’ pages are automatically added; this can be changed.
- The site contains several pages that provide information about using the ‘theme’ (controlling the content layout and appearance) that has been applied to the site – this is the official University of Salford Research theme. You should read these pages to help you understand how to work with the theme. These pages should be deleted before launching your site. If you would rather keep them for future reference, the status of each can be set to DRAFT.
Banner Image?
The recommended resolution for a banner image is 1920 x 450 pixels. This will allow everything to show on the screen without being cropped.
Video banners work differently to the image ones, with the ability to be any height they want. We still recommend using 1920 x 450 pixels however, to keep the flow of your site the same.
Choosing the Home Page Banner Image/Video
Add a suitable image and/or video to the Media Library.
Copy the URL.
Open the Customizer: go to the Video Banner section. Add either (or both) the URLs to the appropriate sections. If you specify a video AND an image, the video will display.
To display a banner, add a banner URL and do not add a video URL!!
