Social media in social work spaces: exploring opportunities and issues for social work practice

12:30 – 16:00, Tuesday 31st January 2017

MediaCityUK, The University of Salford

Social media use shows no signs of slowing down, it has become an ordinary and accepted part of our everyday lives. What can social media offer social work practice?

This event explores research about how social media has facilitated connections and networks between service users and practitioners, and identifies what we can learn from these to develop and enhance our practice, whilst also remaining alert to the complexities and risks inherent within these digital, permanent and global forms of communication. Participants will be invited to discuss their own experiences of social media use in practice, and reflect on how they might use social media in the future.
