Update 07/06/2016 – Metrolink Maintenance Work

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) have announced that essential maintenance work will be carried out at various locations along the Metrolink Eccles line this summer.

From 26 June 2016, sections of worn track – now 16 years old – will be replaced. The lengths of rail involved are predominantly embedded curves, often situated within the highway and they need replacing now to ensure the continued safe and reliable running of Metrolink services along the line.

In order to complete the work as efficiently as possible, services on the line will close for approximately nine weeks – although services from Deansgate-Castlefield to MediaCityUK are expected to resume in early August.

The works will be completed in stages and the length of time required to complete each stage will vary from one to four weeks. Exact dates for each phase are currently being finalised and we will post the full update to our website in advance of the closure coming into effect. Access for residents and businesses will be maintained.

In order to minimise disruption, the contractor will avoid carrying out any work overnight as far as possible, TfGM have worked closely with Urban Vision to co-ordinate the traffic management measures required in order to avoid, where possible, the need for any full road closures.

Throughout the work, a bus replacement service will be in operation and will call at all affected stops except Pomona and train services from Eccles and Patricroft rail stations to/from the Manchester city centre will operate as normal.

Walking routes will be sign-posted and dedicated shuttle bus services will run between Manchester city centre and Cornbrook – in addition to the bespoke replacement bus service provided on the Eccles line. Information will be provided at Metrolink stops this week to help passengers plan and prepare for the changes.
