Dr Stephen Atkins

Research interests in areas relating to interdisciplinary sports science, concussion management and measurement and performance analysis. As a supervisor I have been director of studies/2nd supervisor for ten doctoral candidates, allied to several others at MRes and MPhil level. I have worked on several enterprise projects relating to measurement technologies in sport and exercise settings. I am a reviewer and supervisor for accredited sports scientists via the British Association for Sport and Exercise Sciences. I serve as a reviewer for nine journals. I’ve also coordinated three high profile conferences in the domain of sport and exercise sciences. In the domain of sports consultancy, I have worked I athlete monitoring settings in sports ranging from professional football and rugby league to elite triathlon and distance running.

Topic areas of interest for supervision include:

Areas relating to measurement of performance, notably in the physiological domain. Cycling and endurance profiling. Measurement of concussion and attendant impact on education and return to play.
