Dr Paul Jones

My research interests are primarily within the area of the assessment and development of speed, change of direction speed and agility in athletes in regard to performance and injury risk, in particular change of direction biomechanics. In addition, I am interested in research pertaining to assessment methods of muscle strength qualities and injury risk factors. I have co-edited a book on the subject titled ‘Performance Assessment in Strength and Conditioning’ by Routledge. 

Postgraduate Research Supervision Interests

Topic areas of interest for supervision include:  

  • Assessment and development of speed, change of direction speed and agility for performance and injury risk.
  • Biomechanics of change of direction and related actions for performance and injury risk.
  • Assessment of muscle strength qualities in relation to sports performance.
  • Assessment of injury risk factors (e.g., hamstrings/ knee).
