Dr Jacqueline Leigh

Dr Jacqueline Leigh is a Professor of Nurse Education Practice at the University of Salford. An advocate for nurse and inter-professional, evidence- based education, teaching and learning, Jacqueline has significant experience in developing and evaluating innovative curricula that meets nursing and workforce needs in health and social care. She works across Greater Manchester creating opportunities for the development of the healthcare workforce around nursing and interprofessional supervision and assessment in practice.

Jacqueline’s expertise in nurse education practice is recognised at the highest level receiving multiple learning and teaching awards including UK/International Advance HE Principal Fellow, National Teaching Fellow, Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence, and multiple University of Salford Vice Chancellor Distinguished Teaching Awards.  Jacqueline is a member of Sigma: Global Nursing Excellence and The Centre for the Advancement of Interprofessional Education (CAIPE) Research Group. As Deputy Chair Healthwatch Salford, Jacqueline influences the delivery and design of local services-not just for people who use them now, but anyone who might need them in the future.

As an Executive Coach she particularly enjoys supporting individuals to learn and develop and reach their full potential. As an experienced UK NHS Leadership Academy Healthcare Leadership 360 Feedback Facilitator (individual and group), Jacqueline coaches and mentor’s senior healthcare leaders as part of the North West Leadership Academy mentoring scheme.

Being on the editorial board of British Journal of Nursing and Health Inform, Jacqueline works with Salford, Greater Manchester academics and students to publish papers demonstrating how the University of Salford and Greater Manchester Universities consistently provide excellent undergraduate nursing programmes, supervision and assessment.

Postgraduate Research Supervision Interests

Research interests are around practice learning, leadership development, workforce development, role transition, supervision and assessment. Current projects 2020/2021:

  • Health Education England: Development North West Framework for Practice Supervisors, Practice Assessors and Academic Assessors
  • Health Education England: Educate the Educators

Health Education England: Develop partnership opportunities between Third Sector organisations and HEIs, enabling the development and implementation of the PerCIE framework within the third sector across PCN, acute and community care sites

  • Health Education England: Evaluate GM Synergy Coaching Model in Clinical Practi
