Accelerating Construction Innovation
The University of Salford’s Centre for Construction Innovation will help deliver an ambitious, mission orientated programme to transform the construction sector and the UK’s built environment. It will build on established connections across local and regional government, industry and academia to play a key role in guiding and shaping construction innovation across the North West and beyond.
The University’s strategy demands that the Centre for Construction Innovation:
- Will pioneer a consortium of industry partners to be a catalyst for change at every level
- Will enable the construction sector to utilise smart design and develop sustainable manufacturing solutions, underpinned by digital technologies
- Will drive collaboration with industry to transform the way buildings are designed, manufactured and constructed; building better, smarter, cleaner, greener and more affordable places to live
- Will partner future generations with current industry innovators and leaders
- Will, through industry collaboration and skills development, facilitate knowledge transfer and showcase best practice from across the sector
The University of Salford’s origins can be traced back to 1896, with the institute being founded to serve the regions core industries. Today, the University maintains those links by working closely with industry partners through its four schools (Science, Environment and Engineering; Health Sciences; Arts and Media; and, Business), delivering collaborations that both benefit a range of industries and research and teaching. The University has put its’ full civic weight behind the Greater Manchester’s Industrial Strategy, which has outlined four key areas where Britain can lead the global technological revolution, namely: artificial intelligence and big data; clean growth; the future of mobility; and meeting the needs of an ageing society.
At the University of Salford, world class academics and facilities are brought together with industry, to support the development of new ideas and innovations. This results in lasting partnerships with businesses and knowledge growth for our students. Salford staff are empowered to work differently, more flexibly, in more agile ways, to ensure that we honour this tradition and are also fit for the future.
“At Salford, we believe that by pioneering exceptional industry partnerships we will lead the way in real world experiences preparing students for life.”
