Senior Lecturer in audio technology in the School of Computing, Science & Engineering.


Main teaching areas are in audio production and post production, audio technology and music technology to our BSc (Hons), BEng and MSc courses. Supervising final year and MSc projects in spatial audio, accessibility and audio post production.

Research Interests

My main research interests are in audio, digital media, broadcast and accessibility, including cross disciplinary research. Currently working on object-based spatial audio systems, audio forensics for media content security and audio related accessibility for people with hearing impairments.

Recent Research Activity

  • Co-developer of SALSA: Spatial Automated Live Sports Audio, now a spin out company, Salsa Sound Ltd developing audio mixing automation systems for live sports broadcast
  • Co-Investigator on £5.4M S3A EPSRC project developing and evaluating object based spatial audio systems.
  • Principal Investigator for Arts Council England funded project for The Space with Psappha
  • Principal Investigator for University of Salford’s part of a 9.5M euro FP7 project (FascinatE) which commenced February 2010 and completed in July 2013.
  • Principal Investigator for Ofcom funded project (VoIPTxt) making voice chat clients accessible for hearing impaired people
  • Consultant for a range of commercial activity based at the Acoustics Research Centre, University of Salford.
  • Principal investigator on the Clean Audio Project, funded by the Independent Television Commission (ITC), and later Ofcom, aimed to improve intelligibility and enjoyment of digital TV for hard of hearing viewers.
